2nd Grade US Course | Hokkaido - Learning About Ainu Culture and Heritage
The 2nd Grade US Course students had another wonderful and meaningful experience on the fourth and final day of their Autumn Trip 2026!
After spending a comfortable and enjoyable night at their ryokan (traditional Japanese inn), it was finally time to say goodbye. Before leaving, the students enjoyed breakfast together and prepared their belongings for their journey.
To express their appreciation for the warm hospitality, the students took a group photo with the accommodation owners before saying their final goodbyes.
Discovering Ainu Culture at UPOPOY
Before returning to Osaka, the students participated in their final educational program at UPOPOY (National Ainu Museum and Park), a cultural facility dedicated to preserving and promoting the history, traditions, and culture of the Ainu people.
During their visit, the students had the opportunity to experience and learn many interesting things about Ainu culture.
One of the highlights was watching a live performance of traditional Ainu songs. Instead of simply listening to recordings, the students experienced the music performed by Ainu performers. Through these performances, they learned how traditional songs and music are connected to the daily lives, beliefs, and traditions of the Ainu people.
It was a valuable cultural experience that helped the students develop a deeper appreciation for Japan's Indigenous heritage.

At first, some students found the instrument challenging, but everyone showed great interest and did their best to practice. It was a fun and educational experience that allowed them to connect with Ainu culture through music.
The students also had the opportunity to taste traditional Ainu food. They enjoyed trying the local dishes together while learning more about the food culture and traditions of the Ainu people.
These activities made their final educational program both enjoyable and meaningful.
